The Regional Assembly supports the defense of the territorial limits of Ãguilas in front of Pulpí (11/07/2018)

The Commission of Territorial Policy, Environment, Agriculture and Water has unanimously given the green light to the Popular Party motion in which it is intended to defend the territorial limits of the municipality of Águilas and reject the demarcation process promoted by the city council of Pulpí with the intention of annexing the Playa de los Cocedores to the province of Almería.

The popular leader has explained that the city council of Pulpí has initiated a file, based on historical archives, with which it tries to put in question the territorial ownership of the beach of the Cookers.

It is inadmissible because the membership of that area has never been questioned in the municipality of Águilas, said the popular deputy who has added that there has never been disagreement about the delimitation of this space or of others, such as the case of Playa de la Higuerica, now also in question.

Therefore, Soler stressed, this controversial issue between the two municipalities is surprising because we have always had a wonderful relationship and this initiative not only endangers the limits of the municipality of Águilas, but also the territorial limits of the Region of Murcia.

Isabel M. Soler, said that with this file, the city of Pulpí, aims to damage the interests of Águilas and also those of the Region of Murcia as it is an attempt to change the regional territorial demarcation and lower its limits in favor of the province of Almeria, something that lacks justification and that we are not going to consent, he said.

And this initiative is surprising, Soler pointed out, adding that we have always had a wonderful relationship with the City Council of Pulpí and it lacks any justification, since the boundaries have been peaceful for more than 130 years and there is also an act that is collected in the National Geographic Institute itself.

Given these circumstances, the regional deputy of the Popular Party thanked the political position of rejection of all political groups represented in the Regional Assembly before the unjustified intentions of the consistory of Pulpí to take over a territory that does not correspond.

We have to defend what is ours and this unanimous statement must serve to position ourselves in a strong way and that the Pulpí City Council rectifies and does not continue with this project that is not going anywhere since the only thing that it will generate are tensions where the there has been, has nuanced Soler.

For this reason, it requests the Governing Council, together with the city council of Águilas, to appear in the file and plead against the intentions of the Almería City Council.

In the same way, request the involvement of the Government of Spain so that Murcia is not harmed by this division of the territory.
