The mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, the mayor of Culture María Dolores Simó and the mayor of Fisheries, Bartolomé Hernández, together with the manager of Galpemur, Inmaculada Torres, yesterday inaugurated the 12 information panels of the new Urban Museum Route of Águilas.The purpose of this route is to disseminate and value the important history of the fishing sector in Águilas.
It begins on the beach of La Colonia where the old fish shop was, passing through the Plaza de Abastos to pay tribute to the fishermen and fishermen who sold the fish there, continuing the tour through the most emblematic areas for the aquiline fishing sector.Through its twelve panels, the fishing sector is valued and paid tribute, highlighting its historical importance (dating back to the Phoenicians and Romans), valuing the figure of the fisherman as a new social model in its environmental performance and as an important element within of the local economy and raising awareness of traditional fishing values.In the same way, the aim is to promote the culture and traditions of the municipality, making them available to its population, increasing the tourist offer, as well as raising awareness and awareness of the need to preserve the local environment."It is a group deeply rooted in our city and it must have the leading role and recognition that corresponds to it and we consider it an attractive way to highlight this sacrificial profession, as well as what it has meant for the local economy through the ages", the mayor has highlighted.This action is subsidized by the European Maritime and Fisheries Social Fund (FEMP) and by the General Directorate of Livestock, Fisheries and Aquaculture through the Local Fisheries and Aquaculture Action Group of the Murcia Region GALPEMUR.
