Handball revives Eagles (03/03/2016)

In the middle of the last decade, handball disappeared in Eagles.

Gone were those years where their drivers brave Miguel Angel Blaya (founder of the club), Palazón, Raimundo and Fernando Gonzalez were able to fill, first tracks sports and then the flag 'Agustín Muñoz' of enthusiastic children and aquiline girls determined to devote himself to a sport managed to have much solera in this city.

But then came the decline.

And the struggling Eagles Handball Club, founded in 1973 and considered the oldest in the region, he was sentenced to renew or die.

Until they appeared a group of crazy about this sport, driven by his love handball and enormously grateful for how much the club had given them, they decided to start working from below, making quarry from schools.

That was how Lorenzo, Reuben, and Antonio Jacinto began, along with coach Fran, the work of implementing the handball as an extracurricular activity under the aegis of the club.

This constant effort paid off soon and could start a local league, school level, which is still held every Saturday and this year has already reached its sixth season.

It was increasingly achieving greater participation and course level.

Hence, that sap enthusiastic, have begun to emerge federated teams.

Those difficult beginnings, for five seasons, two children's teams, one male and one female, and youth who are today, increasing to nine teams that are federated club section.

As the effort and perseverance always bear fruit, there are now five regional titles won in the children's and juvenile categories, plus three consecutive school championships fry, and three other runners in children and cadets.

Thus, always with hard work and sacrifice, and the invaluable collaboration of the companies that decided to clearly bet on this sport, you try to build a project that continues to grow every day.

This year, the target set is even more ambitious: The women's senior team has recovered columbines players who were scattered throughout the country and have already returned to Eagles.

It is names like Lidia Jimenez, Raquel Navarro or Anaís Lorenzo among others, who come to play in important national category teams such as Itxaco of Navarra and Murcia UCAM;

this year competing in the senior regional league and are already mathematically champions a regular league that has outgrown them.

The next target is already marked: to achieve nothing less than the ascent to national category (Division of Honor Plata).

And with that goal in mind we have set to work with enthusiasm.

We know that the campaign will not be easy, neither in the field nor economically: a club that has been reborn just have the necessary infrastructure to meet this challenge.

But here nobody is going to pay.

And we are all clear that we will not jeopardize the bases, it is precisely the cornerstone of our ambitious project.

So we went to knock on the doors of government and private companies, both local and regional, to achieve support and sponsorship for a team, that of our senior girls, who certainly will be talking in the coming years.

Eagles handball is a safe investment.

Sticking up for it, we bet for them.
