Political and researchers debate how to conserve biodiversity in the landscape of Chuecos aquiline (14/06/2016)

Coinciding with the commemoration of World Environment Day was recently held in the place of Chuecos (Eagles) a day promoted by society Castle Chuecos, to meet and discuss among its members the progress and prospects of the agreement signed at the time by that company and the University of Murcia.

Under that agreement they are being carried therein research, training and awareness and sustainable use, developed and integrated in an area of ​​great environmental value.

In addition, the aquiline farm has an ambitious management plan that contemplates numerous actions aimed at the conservation of biodiversity and cultural heritage, promotion of traditional products and the organization of cultural development initiatives and protection of flora, fauna and crops native.

The day was attended by the coordinator of the agreement, Professor of Ecology and Hydrology of the UMU Francisco Robledano and several of the teachers responsible for projects, along with the president of the Renewable Foundation, Domingo Jimenez, former director of the European Agency Environment, founding partner of the company and coordinator alongside David Faustino Andres Aparicio and representatives of Castle Chuecos SL.

Councilors also attended Maria Isabel Torrente, Tomas Cosentino and Desi Navarro on behalf of the City of Eagle, and other guests.

The day began with the presentation of participants and the program to develop, continuing with various interventions and debates around the presentation of Management Plan Chuecos and the agreement signed with the University of Murcia, were also reviewed developments and development ongoing projects and the planned measures in the short and medium term.

After a lunch with healthy products, handmade and other typical of the place, in the drafting of the traditional wood oven and mirrors for concentrating solar power alternated, attendees toured the farm, where there Aleppo pine, espartizales , thyme and scrub composed of mastic, black hawthorn, clematis and albaida, among other species and natural vegetation that alternates with cereal crops, olives, almonds, citrus or vineyards.

The fauna is very diverse and can be observed as interesting species such as Bonelli's eagle, the eagle owl and blackberry turtle.

The Castle Chuecos farm where the working day was developed as part of the Special Protection Area (SPA) of the Sierra Almenara-Cabo Cope-Las Moreras, constituting one of the areas of greatest biodiversity aquiline municipality, which is an emblem for conservationists.

The farm has about 500 hectares, is located in the Sierra de la Almenara, and was incorporated into the Network of Biodiversity, Genetic Diversity and Landscape (REB) following the signing of a cooperation agreement with the commercial Castle Chuecos, SL, owning entity.

The day ended with a plantation of several copies of "almeriense Helianthemun" endemic plant in the Mediterranean wild flora, discovered in the nearby province of Almeria, where he took his name.
