After 11 years in the Port of Aguilas in a complicated situation from the legal point of view, this morning sank Penelope, a sailboat of more than 30 meters.

From the moment in which the situation has been known, the Councilor for Citizen Security, Vicente Ruiz, the councilors of Finance and Personnel, Tomás Consentino and Isabel Fernández, and the mayor of the Fishermen's Guild, Domingo Diaz.

Immediately, an action protocol has been activated in which Maritime Rescue, Red Cross, Civil Protection and Local Police are already working with the aim, among other things, of installing a protection barrier in the sea with which to isolate the area And prevent spills from occurring.

The mayor of Aguilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, has moved to Murcia to meet with the director general of Ports and transfer the situation.

In this sense, both the Government Team and the Fishermen's Guild have reiterated the need for a legal situation to be solved in a situation that has been denounced for years so as not to repeat a situation like today.

"From the Fishermen's Guild we have been informing the port authorities of the Region of Murcia for more than ten years of a situation that was coming and, unfortunately, they have not acted at any time", said the Chief Patron of the Fishermen's Guild.

For his part, the mayor of Public Safety recalled that "what has happened to this ship was something that was already announced and for that reason since the Government Team have been numerous meetings we have had with the port authorities to seek a Solution to this problem ".

Regarding the operation carried out, Sergio Carbonel, director of Maritime Rescue of the Region of Murcia, explained that "initially the vessel was secured in order to avoid breaking cables, then proceed to the reflating and drain the water to finally Take the boat out of the sea, an operation to be carried out in the next few days using two large tonnage cranes. "

It should be noted that, although the necessary environmental protocol has been activated, the vessel has been decontaminated for two years.
