The large tonnage cranes necessary for the Penelope boat have already been installed (11/01/2017)

This morning two special cranes of great tonnage were installed, necessary for the reflote of the Penelope, the boat of almost 40 meters of length that last week sank in the fishing port of the locality.

The cranes are mounted on four three-by-two-meter structural plates, which have been specially designed for these jobs and placed on the harbor's fishing pier.

In addition, each plate has two chains formed by four chains.

The two cranes are large, each weighs 150 tons, and have been brought from outside the Region.

The mayor of Aguilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, visited the port of the town this morning accompanied by the general director of Transport, Ports and Coasts, Salvador García-Ayllón.

During the visit the first aquiline mayor reiterated his gratitude "to all the personnel of Salvamento Marítimo, Cruz Roja, Civil Protection, General Directorate of Ports and all the workers who are working to be able to develop this operation, with the complexity that supposes, in the Shortest possible time ".

The first aquiline building also stated that if the weather conditions allow the operation will continue tomorrow with the reflote and subsequent lifting of the sailboat.

The maneuvers for the reflote of the boat began last week, with the help of the Maritime Captaincy, with the stabilization of the sailboat, the securing and cutting of the masts.

Once rescued the boat of the sea will be transferred to land for later scrapping because of the material of its helmet is impossible to reconvert it in submarine wreck.

The Penelope boat was the first recreational sailboat built with aluminum in 1968, in the French shipyards Eugene-Cornu.

It weighs 145 tons and has dimensions of 38.8 meters in length, 7.2 meters of sleeve and 4.1 meters of draft in aft.

This vessel, with flag of Gibraltar, had been abandoned in the Port of Eagles.
