On red alert for 'heat wave' (27/08/2010)

The Emergency Department of the Ministry of the Presidency and government of the Region of Murcia has issued the City of Eagles special notice of the State Meteorological Agency of adverse weather phenomenon for the heat wave.

Anticyclonic situation that is affecting most of the Peninsula has led to a rise in temperatures in the south, which has made the red alert is activated in the Valley area Guadalentín, Lorca and Aguilas.

The orange alert level will be active until 19.00 pm today, Friday, August 27, while reaching on time, maximum temperatures of 42 ° C, according AEMET.

The Department of Public Safety of the City of Eagle, in anticipation of high temperatures that may be caused in our city, offers the public the following advice:

Avoid direct sunlight.

Stay off the street in the hottest hours.

Avoid sports, DIY, gardening ... not try too hard when it's too hot.

Use sandals or open shoes.

Protect your eyes with proper sunglasses.

Stay as long as possible inside your home, room cooler.

Shower frequently during the day or cool down with a damp cloth.

Drink plenty of water and often.

This is one of the most important recommendations.

Do not drink any alcohol, avoid drinks with caffeine or high sugar because they increase the elimination of liquids.

Avoid drinking extremely cold liquids.

Avoid hot foods, heavy and slow digestion.

Increase consumption of fruits and vegetables of summer to recharge the body of minerals.

We must exercise caution in the following circumstances:

During the first heat wave, because the body still is not accustomed to high temperatures.

When the heat goes on for several days or if the days or nights are very hot.

When there is high humidity and no wind.

Heat stroke is the greatest risk of prolonged exposure to heat, which can cause death or serious sequelae if no immediate treatment.

The body is unable to control the temperature, which is increased rapidly and can reach 40'6 ° C.

The main symptoms are: hot, dry and red skin, rapid pulse, severe headache, nausea, drowsiness and thirst, seizures, confusion and unconsciousness.

Faced with these symptoms should call emergency, while waiting, cool the body, being in a dark room, put cold cloths on the body or taking a bath or shower with cool water.

The days of intense heat the human body require an adaptation effort to maintain normal body temperature.

The heat does not affect all people equally, some are more sensitive to the effects of heat such as: the elderly, the sick, children under 4 years old, mentally handicapped people, people with a lot of weight and athletes and workers exposed to the sun.
