Motion on the rights of children (25/11/2010)

The spokesmen of Municipal Groups: Popular Socialist Masd, IU + and Mixed Greens, raise the regular plenary session in November for consideration, debate and approval, the following motion:

MOTION ON THE RIGHTS OF CHILDREN

On November 20, 2010 the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the girls turned 21.

Since then more than 8 million people in our country have been recognized them their rights of citizenship from birth.

Consequently, during the time that this Convention has been in effect, an entire generation in our town has been protected and accepted their rights from birth to adulthood.

The Convention on the Rights of Children and Girls approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations on November 20, 1989 is confirmed and the desire to ensure the full development of children in their status as citizens as of right.

The almost universal ratification of the Convention reflects the global commitment to the principles underlying the rights of children.

Said signatory governments 21 years ago and today confirmed its intention to make this commitment.

Municipalities as an institution closer to the citizens we are obliged to take action, policies that fully implement the Convention on the Rights of Children and Girls taking into account their rights in municipal decisions and ensuring that all measures taken in line with the interests of the child (Article 3).

Although in recent years there has been significant progress, we still have much to do.

This task should involve not only governments but of all members of society, including the subjects of our action, the children of our town.

Promoting the participation of children will make our cities look toward a more sustainable, more humane and in which all / as we have in mind (The right of the child to express their views and have take due account of their views art.12).

It is time to act positively and continue to raise awareness to the need, first, to gather and share information on these issues and, second, to redirect the Child Policies towards the promotion and protection of the rights of the child and continue working so that future generations of children improve in their condition of citizens of full compliance and recognizing their rights and duties.

Therefore it is proposed to Full Council the adoption of the following agreement.

The city of Eagle is committed to continue working in cooperation and coordination with other administrations (regional, national and international) to ensure closer attention and resources to children and girls especially vulnerable and have lived in an environment of violence gender.
