Dr. Antonio López Bermejo offers a conference in Eagles to promote bone marrow donation (18/07/2012)

The event was held last night in the auditorium of the Garden Don Jorge, and was attended by the mayor of Health of the City of Eagle, Ana Maria Miñarro, and the manager of Area III of Lorca, Kitty Lawrence, Matthew's and Miras, an aquiline that in December 2011 was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia.

The hall of the Garden last night welcomed Jorge conference on bone marrow donation, offered by the deputy director of the Health Area IV of Murcia and representative of the José Carreras Foundation in the Region, Dr. Antonio López Bermejo.

During the ceremony, Lopez Bermejo was accompanied by the mayor of Health of the City of Eagle, Ana Maria Miñarro, and the manager of Area III of Lorca, Kitty Lawrence and Matthew Miras, an aquiline that in December 2011 was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia.

These conferences are trying to convey that the bone marrow is a tissue essential for life, since it is made of blood cells and immune system.

Many diseases are caused by excessive production, insufficient or abnormal in a given cell type derived from the mother cell.

The bone marrow transplant allows healing to replace defective cells from other normal healthy donor.

In many of these diseases transplantation is the only therapeutic option.

After the talk was informed all present that next Tuesday, July 24, from 17:30 to 21:30 pm in the Casa del Mar, the Center for Blood Donation, Murcia will perform anaíticas to find out the marrow typing all those citizens interested in being potential donors.

Note that for a successful transplant is necessary to have a match with the patient, can be a donor of haematopoietic progenitors anyone in good health and aged between 18 and 55.

The Spanish Registry of Bone Marrow (REDMO) was created and is being supported by the Jose Carreras International Foundation for the fight against leukemia, framed in the NHS.

Spain is the last places in the world in this type of donation.

The possibilities for patients who can not find a donor in the family is from 1:40,000 figure is very high and very few donors.
