Eagles shows the significance of the industry to the town of Esparto (08/08/2014)

In last night Thursday, August 7, the Plaza of Spain Eagles back in time to commemorate the Day Local Esparto, a date that reminds us that a day like this, in 2008, the last representative aquiline working in this office, Gálvez Diego Román, stopped for retirement from the company known as "The Moris".

Numerous aquiline and tourists could see how important it was for the municipality esparto, since its founding in the eighteenth century to the mid-twentieth time that the town had as many as 30 plants and 18 kilns of this steppe plant, positioning as one of the main sources of income for its inhabitants.

The program to celebrate this event included, among other activities, an exhibition of photographs by Juan Hernandez, esparto scholar as well as the display of a model, by Antonio Mena, on the origins and the manufacturing process;

from collection in the field when spin it, through the cooker and subsequent drying, chopping the harness or raking to get the fiber to achieve the final product that was used by farmers, fishermen and stonemasons, giving multiple apps.

Similarly, there was a demonstration on making cordage with raked esparto, by professional spinners.

In addition, local artisans displayed their work, and while they made pleita recincho.

Also, there was a concentration of Mussonas, one of the characters Eagles Carnival that 16 years ago was recovered from this ancient festival and whose dress is made mainly of esparto.

During the opening ceremony, the mayor of Eagle, Bartolomé Hernández, and the mayor of Tourism and Celebrations, Clara Valverde, presented the honorary craftsmen cards spelled to: Rondán Juan Antonio Lajarín, Andrés López and Joaquín Fernández, who picked up their accreditations issued by the Directorate General for Trade, Consumer and Handicrafts, belonging to the Ministry of Universities, Enterprise and Innovation in the Region of Murcia.

Moreover, the municipal authorities handed a diploma thanks to Enrique Delgado, for their knowledge and their help in the recovery of the history of esparto locally.

The schedule of events will end this weekend, with a market that meet various tasks performed by esparteros Eagles and other craftsmen.

It will be held from 8 to 10 August at the Plaza de Alfonso Escámez in time from 19 to 22 hours.
