Three hundred students participating in bilingual programs aquiline (11/11/2014)

The mayor of the City of Eagles Education, Francisco Clemente, visited this morning the CEIP Las Lomas, where he was received by the center's director, Fina Ramirez, with whom he toured the classrooms where immersion classes are taught.

Clement explained the reason for the visit was to verify personally the development of bilingual program instituted in this school since 2011, positioning it as the pioneer of the town center in this type of education.

The program was started with freshmen Primary School, which this year have already reached the fourth level.

This represents a substantial increase in the number of hours in teaching languages, distributed among the subjects of science, art and English.

Also last year, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Universities selected this center, along with five others in the Region of Murcia, to form part of a pilot program of English immersion for the second cycle of Primary Education.

This is done during a daily session of one hour, in which the teacher uses only the target language to communicate with students.

Teachers attending to students are specialist teachers in English and have the support of two assistants in English.

Specifically, this school year are from New Zealand and the United States.

The program's objectives are to improve the learning and acquisition of skills in listening comprehension of English;

develop content in formal, informal and non-formal activities, promoting linguistic communication;

and expand communication skills in various languages and forms of expression of students.

Upon completion of the visit, the Councillor for Education highlighted the ease showing children from an early age to acquire this knowledge and expressed his hope that this commitment will extend bilingualism, gradually, to other schools in the locality.

Finally, Clement remembered now almost two hundred students aquiline schools already participate in these bilingual programs.

Of these, 247 are CEIP Las Lomas and 51 of Mary Immaculate, which this year has joined the network of centers.
