ANSE and Ecologists in Action denouncing the neglect of regional government in the protection of the Sierra de la Almenara (28/08/2008)

The Southeastern Association of Naturalists and Ecologists in Action have been sent both to the President of the Autonomous Community and the Minister of Sustainable Development and Planning asking for immediate action from the Regional Government in the Zerrichera, and that despite the progress of criminal investigations and precautionary suspension of the project for justice has not been taken from the Regional Executive a single measure for the conservation of nature in this space: the Management Plan of the SPA still not approved and has occurred review of actions null and Environmental Impact Statement.

The complaint filed by ANSE and Ecologists in Action to the Office of the Supreme Court is giving rise to one of the most outstanding research in the history of the Conservation of Nature in the South of Spain, as the Judge of Instruction No. 3 of Murcia, Antonio Alcazar Fajardo, is investigating various regional government officials (including now the former Chief Marquis) for urban reclassification of nearly 200 acres within a conservation area (Site of Community Importance and Special Protection Area for birds).

Both ANSE and Ecologists in Action are people through their lawyers as private prosecutor investigating the case.

In addition, both organizations filed an administrative appeal against the reclassification of urban development that allowed the interim suspension of the project.

Moreover, ANSE sent a complaint to the European authorities on this case by the possible infringement of Community law.

The information is known about the points in a Zerrichera increasingly clear that various irregularities and illegalities to allow the reclassification of a protected area for its natural values.

However, have not yet been purged by the responsibilities involved (some in positions of responsibility with public budgets) and the Government of the Autonomous Region continues impassively without adopting a single measure to ensure the protection of nature in Zerrichera.

In this sense, the organizations reported that the Management Plan of the Special Protection Area for Birds "Sierra de la Almenara, Mulberry and Cabo Cope" still to be approved despite a commitment by the regional administration to the EU authorities in the context of a LIFE and have exhausted all the time and renewals.

Both organizations believe that should be the President, who should make that commitment.

Nor have they received any response from the Minister of Sustainable Development and Regional Planning at the request made by ASEAN in 2006 on the beginning of the review procedure Void or voidable acts to declare the nullity of a favorable Environmental Impact Statement General Plan amendment to the Eagles in the hamlet of La Zerrichera.
