Distribution of information materials and ties of solidarity on World AIDS Day (28/11/2008)

Eagle City Council, through the Department of Health, adds to the events of World AIDS Day, which under the title "Open your eyes to reality", will take place in different parts of the Region of Murcia .

For this reason, on Monday 1 December, from 10:00 to 13.00 pm in the Plaza of Spain, will install an information table with promotional materials and more than 2,000 red ribbons to show solidarity with those people with the disease.

Similarly, it will form a great bond of solidarity that all people who come to the stand will be covering it in red.

Previously, from Friday, the Department of Health has begun to be distributed by pharmacies and health centers in the area, commemorative posters, solidarity ties and information leaflets.

The mayor of Health of the City of Eagle, Ana Miñarro, will serve the media, on Monday 1 December, at 11.30 am in the information table on the Plaza of Spain.

AIDS in the Region of Murcia

This year, the data incorporate the Regional Registry of AIDS in 2007.

Since 1984, AIDS cases in Spain and in the region have fallen, but in recent years this decline has slowed in the same way in the Community than in the rest of the country.

In 2007 there were 1,176 new cases in Spain and in the region of 58, ten more than in the previous year.

Since the epidemic originated officially in 1981, the Region has been diagnosed to 1,572 people.

In recent years, despite the increase of cases in women, the trend is slowing.

The 19.1 percent of cases, 94 of the Region were women in the period between 1997-2002 and 19.9 percent, 61 cases between 2003 and 2008.

According to the latest data from the period 2003-2008, cases have fallen between the user sector intravenous drugs, although it remains the most recorded cases, thanks largely to social work developed in the supply of syringes and awareness this population to avoid infection.

In contrast, in infections through heterosexual contacts, cases have increased to almost equal percentage of injecting drug users, rising from 13 percent in the period 1981-1990 to 24 percent.

In the case of homosexual HIV cases have staged a decline: from 21 cases in 1996 to 11 in 2001 and a subsequent stabilization, with eight cases in 2006 and nine in 2007, 18.7 percent of the cases AIDS in the region.
