The popular councilman Carlos A. Bartolomé takes stock of the worrying statistical data on employment that are published lately about Águilas.
When the trend in the whole of Spain is the decrease in the number of unemployed year after year, the latest data published by the Employment and Training Service of the Region of Murcia, show an increase of unemployed registered in the office of unemployment in the last year.
According to the popular mayor, in June last year there were 2,213 people registered as job seekers, while in June of 2,018 this figure has increased by 38 people to a total of 2,251.
Also the number of contracts signed in the last month yields more than worrisome data since of the 1,631 contracts signed, only 117 were indefinite, a poor 7.17%, which evidences the precariousness of the labor market in Águilas, where the majority of contracts signed are eventual and even only for hours.
But perhaps the most worrisome is the decline in the active population in recent years, that is, those people of working age.
By way of data, in Águilas there are 126 fewer people between the ages of 16 and 45 at the end of 2,017 than at the end of 2016.
This seems to indicate clearly that young people leave our locality to look for a better future in other populations or autonomous communities, mainly due to the uncertainty of a future that they do not see clearly, working in Águilas.
Bartholomew concludes by saying that obviously something is not being done well from the town hall, by not making our town attractive for the implementation of new businesses that would lead to an increase in jobs and as a result, an improvement in the living conditions of aquilines.
We demand our leaders, with the mayor in charge, to set a course and not drift any further and dedicate more time to work for the aquilines and less to self-promotion and photographic reporting.
