The care and maintenance of these beauties of the air that decorate much of the geography of Águilas is based, above all, on one word: prevention.
And that is the responsibility of José Luis Celdrán, responsible for the parks and gardens of Águilas in the STV Gestión concession company.
"What is involved is to carry out constant work and have specialized training in this field, in order to prevent any possible problem as soon as possible," explains Celdrán.
For this, from the City of Águilas we have developed a program of specific phytosanitary treatments for palm trees, against the so-called weevil.
As long as the technicians consider it, with all the necessary permits in force, they can also carry out treatments with chemical products authorized for the field of parks and gardens, "explains Isabel Fernández, councilor for Service Provider Companies.
This type of treatment, only if necessary, can be applied by two methods: spraying or through vascular injections (endotherapy).
The materials that could be used by the company STV Gestión are duly authorized for use, always placing it in the current legal framework.
At present, three combative treatments have been carried out against the red palm weevil in the more than 2,200 palm trees in the municipality of Águilas, and a constant attitude of vigilance and care of the different specimens is maintained.
