The beach of the Delights of Eagles has witnessed this week an important archaeological finding that occurred after the announcement of an aquiline citizen who, while fishing underwater, located half-buried what appeared to be a fragment of a ceramic piece.
This fortuitous discovery allowed to extract a bética amphora of oil, Dressel type 20E, from the Flavio-Trajanea era (110-150 AD).
This important finding shows, points out the municipal archaeologist, Juan de Dios Hernández, "the commercial importance that Águilas had in the Roman era." Up to this point, all kinds of products arrived to redistribute them to the interior of Hispania and, in the same way, it was a point of distribution to any corner of the empire. "
From the Department of Culture of the City of Águilas wanted to highlight the exemplary behavior of Antonio López, discoverer of the piece, who immediately alerted the municipal archeology services, as well as the participants in the work of extracting it, especially the Estela Diving Club.
It should be noted that the piece was a few meters from the coastline and within the bathing area of the beach of Las Delicias.
