The City Council of Águilas initiated last week an informative campaign among the bathers of the Calabardina beach on the oceanic posidonia.
The mayor of the town, Mari Carmen Moreno, and the councilors of Tourism and Services Providers, Ginés Desiderio Navarro and Isabel Fernández, distributed informative brochures in which the benefits of what we popularly know as algae are clearly explained. as of the reasons why when it accumulates in the form of arribazones on the shore it can not be withdrawn immediately.
"With this campaign, which is completed with information panels in the bathing areas, as well as talks that have been held in schools and institutes throughout the year, the City Council wants to banish the concept once and for all, supported by some, that the algae are garbage, "assured the mayor of the town.
And it is that, far from the bad concept expressed by some bathers on the posidonia, the reality is that these are indicators of the good health of the waters and, what is more important, their accumulation on the shore diminishes the effect of erosion, avoiding the loss of sand and making it possible, therefore, that year after year we can continue enjoying the aquiline beaches.
"The City Council intends to make bathers understand that beaches are not pools but natural spaces in which care must be taken and the environment must be respected, always taking into account environmental criteria, which is why the removal of these tops is carried out in a timely manner and by attending always to technical criteria, "Moreno stressed.
