The Plaza de España on Sunday became the scene of events scheduled from the Department of Culture on the occasion of Esparto Day;
day with which it is intended that the tradition espartera, which for years was a fundamental pillar of the local economy, do not miss.
The many people who came to the Glorieta could enjoy the spectacle of seeing live work by the aquiline esparteros artisans who were joined by Torre Pacheco, Pulpí, Vera and Lorca who made an exhibition of the work of spinning with the wheel traditional.
Another of the exhibitions that focused the attention of all the attendees was the one dedicated to the costumes of the Carnival Mussonas, made almost in their majority with esparto grass.
The day concluded with the recognition and tribute to the people linked to Esparto, to whom the Mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno;
the mayor of Culture, Lucía Hernández;
and the coordinator of the acts, Juan Hernández, delivered some recognition plaques.
Thus they were recognized Salvador Calvo, Andrés López and, posthumously, Virginio Navarro "El Perea".
