A single butt can contaminate 50 liters of water and take more than a decade to degrade.
Aware of this problem, the City of guilas keeps active ashtray distribution plan that began at the beginning of the summer season and that has involved the delivery, on the beach, of more than 3,000 conical ashtrays, which must be added all that have been delivered at the tourist information points of the town.
"The maintenance and the care of the beaches should be something for everyone," assured the mayor of Service Provider Companies, Isabel Fernndez, who made an appeal to raise awareness among the public.
These ashtrays are reusable, easily transportable and are intended for the deposit of small waste generated by the users of the beaches (chewing gum, cigarette butts, wrappings, nutshells, etc.), in order to prevent dirty these spaces.
