Escalpito is a marine turtle, mascot of the project that Águilas City Council is developing to drastically reduce the abusive use of plastic utensils, especially those for single use, which pollute our seas.
The project, launched by the Department of Environment and Commerce, aims to reach all schoolchildren in the municipality by developing, in all schools in the town, an Environmental Education program.
In Infantile, as well as 1 st and 2 nd of Primary, work is being done in class through a cartoon video where the problem is explained and, subsequently, they have received the visit of the "turtle" Escalpito to the classes to explain the problem through the eyes of the pet.
For the students from 3rd to 6th grade of Primary, ESO and Bachiller, the problem will be revealed through a PowerPoin talk.
In addition, different competitions will be held in both drawing and photography and short film with the theme of the problem of plastics in the oceans.
The prizes will be awarded on June 5 (World Environment Day).
With part of the material made there will be traveling exhibitions of drawings and photographs.
Also, the classes wishing to make an exit to the beach, with staff from the Department of Environment, to conduct a study of the problem, especially microplastics.
