The City of Águilas, through the Department of Equality, has assumed the commitment to promote sports activities among women, as a factor of health, physical, psychological and social development and equality vehicle.

This is reflected in the Municipal Plan for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men of the City of Águilas.

This need for the promotion of sport as a factor for the integral development of people is also reflected by the Higher Sports Council in its "Manifesto for Equality and the Participation of Women in Sport".

"Indeed, the gender stereotypes related to physical activity and sports, persist in society and in many of the students of Primary and Secondary," said the mayor of the area, Isabel María Torrente.

For this reason, this year, in collaboration with the IES, more specifically among the 1st grade students, work is being done to give visibility to women who practice and have practiced sport through history, both amateur and professional, and propose to the students debate points about the causes of the difference of representation of women and men in the sports field;

all with the aim of promoting references that promote the increase of women of all ages, who are involved in all areas related to sport: training, refereeing, journalism, training, research and sports .
