This morning the Sierra de Pinilla aquiline has been bombarded with more than 25,000 seed bombs;
an action, a pioneer in Spain, included in the Bosques para Águilas project, developed by the Department of the Environment of Águilas City Council with the collaboration of Rotorsun, a company located in the town that is, for the second consecutive year, the one in charge of perform, in a totally disinterested way, this aerial sowing from one of its helicopters.
The mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, and the mayor of Environment, Isabel María Torrente, have been present, along with Ignacio García, manager of Rotorsun and forestry, in this activity with which, through the technique of nendo-dango , it is intended to repopulate one of the few forest areas of our town that in recent years has begun to be lost due to the drought and the plague of processionary and barrenillo.
It should be noted that the seed pumps have been developed entirely by users of the Urci Occupational Center, the Alzheimer Association, Afemac and the Women's Center, to which schoolchildren from all public and private centers have also joined. the location.
All of them have been in charge of making these pumps composed of clay, peat and seeds of pine, Aleppo pine, carob and hackberry.
The materials that compose them avoid their dehydration while protecting them from birds and insects.
The clay will remain hard while the environment is dry but at the moment when the rain falls on the pumps it will release the seed allowing its germination.
The action, which has been carried out on an approximate area of 20 hectares of forest, has a success rate of 5%.
An amount that, although it may seem small, is very important, especially if we take into account that the City of Águilas has maintained this project since last year and that there are many occasions in which the natural environment of the municipality of Águilas has been " bombed. "
