AFEMAC Mental Health users participated on March 27 and 28 at the "Science and the Sea Fair", which took place in the auditorium "Infanta Elena" and was organized by the Águilas City Council and the platform "CienciaTE", entity whose main objectives are to help students consolidate the scientific knowledge acquired in the classroom, as well as scientific dissemination from a fun and close perspective.
AFEMAC was in one of the 33 booths that counted the fair, developing live an environmental activity carried out in collaboration with the Department of Equality, Consumption and Environment of the City of Águilas.
The users showed the hundreds of students from the different educational centers in the region of Murcia and Almería how they make the well-known "seed bombs" (a small ball of clay that contains inside a seed of an indigenous tree of the area) , the huts for different animal species (geckos, bats, owls and swifts), as well as the "hotels of insects", a cabin to help the conservation of numerous species of insects, some in danger of extinction.
The visitors asked questions and were able to share anecdotes with the users of our association, who, on this occasion, worked as "profes" of the youngest.
It is important to highlight the importance of this type of coexistence to show the general society (starting with the smallest) the reality of people suffering from mental health problems, far from unfounded myths and breaking the stigma that often accompanies this collective .
The Association of Relatives and Persons with Mental Illness in Águilas y Comarca (AFEMAC) is a non-profit organization with more than ten years of experience working for the normalization and integration of people with mental illness.
