The Department of Environment of the City of Águilas has launched the Agroa project, a pilot program of self-management of organic waste that was presented yesterday by the mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, the mayor of Environment, Isabel María Torrente, and the agronomist in charge of its development, Rubén García.
The objective of this initiative is, on the one hand, to avoid the burning of agricultural waste, valorizing this type of waste to transform it into compsot, and, on the other hand, to fulfill the obligation that marks the European Union that determines that the municipalities with more of 5,000 inhabitants must separate the organic fraction of the garbage for recycling.
This innovative project has begun with a school composting program that will start next year at schools in the town where a school composter will be installed where the waste generated will be transformed into compost to pay for school gardens.
The Agroa project will be completed offering, in addition, to the students some simple advice and informative talks.
