The Department of Health of the City of Águilas has offered a series of tips to protect against possible heat shock before the alert triggered by high temperatures for the next few days:
- Whenever possible, avoid leaving the house during the central hours of the day (between 12 noon and 6 o'clock in the afternoon).
- Drink plenty of fluids, even if you do not feel thirsty and regardless of the physical activity you do.
- Reduce physical activity and outdoor sports in the middle of the day.
- Make light meals.
- Stay as long as possible in air-conditioned or shaded places.
- Wear natural fabrics, light and loose clothing, light colors, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen creams.
- Keep the food in the fridge and always watch the hygienic conservation measures.
- When parking the car, do not leave children, elderly or pets indoors with the windows closed.
- Pay special attention to people at higher risk (children, the elderly and the chronically ill).
Among the effects of excess heat we can find cramps, headache, dizziness, vomiting, hot and flushed skin or unsteadiness when walking.
If you have any of these symptoms, act quickly by first contacting health emergencies in 112. While the medical service arrives, place the patient in a cool place, refreshing them with cold water, mainly in the neck and armpits.
If conscious, place him with his head elevated and offer him water.
Never give liquids to an unconscious person.
