Águilas has this week with thirteen can compactors installed on the seafront of Poniente, La Colonia, Levante, Delicias and Calabardina whose maintenance and benefits will go to AFEMAC, A'guilas Mental Health Association;
an initiative that comes from the hand of Estrella de Levante and that is a clear commitment to the circular economy.
"The objective is to raise awareness about the importance of the environment through a project that encourages the labor integration of people with disabilities," said the first aquiline mayor, Mari Carmen Moreno, during the presentation of the same.
In each compactor fit 2,000 aluminum cans that, nowadays, need 40% less metal than the cans that were made 25 years ago, less energy and raw material.
It is a residue of easy handling, light, that does not break, does not burn and does not oxidize.
It is easily compacted and has important advantages because 100% of aluminum can be recycled without diminishing its quality.
Through a simple gesture, which is explained in the upper part of the compactor, any citizen can recycle the cans that he consumes.
In the case of A'guilas, AFEMAC will be in charge of managing the maintenance and cleaning of the presses, a paid job that will be added to the amount that is collected for the aluminum.
