This week was held in the Museum of Science and Water of Murcia, the Info Day of the European Project LIFE Adaptate, with the theme "Adaptation to Climate Change in municipalities."

During the day, "Good regional examples of Adaptation to Climate Change" were presented, through two LIFE projects: ADAPTATE (Águilas, Cartagena and Lorca) and Sec Adapt (Bullas), as well as local projects in Alcantarilla and Las Torres de Gossip

From the City Council of Águilas, and within the LIFE ADAPTATE project, the Councilor for Environmental Education, Ginés Desiderio Navarro, and the Environmental Technician, Enrique Delgado, presented the pilot project that is being developed in our municipality, consisting of "creation of a wooded zone with autochthonous vegetation and with irrigation by dripping from water coming from a WWTP ".

This pilot project consists of two phases, the first consisting of the collection of purified water, treated by MBR (Biological Membrane Reactor) in a collection tank which, by means of a pump driven by photovoltaic solar energy, rises to two tanks of 35,000 liters of capacity;

at this point the water is treated for subsequent distribution, by gravity, to the wooded area.

Precisely this forest constitutes the second phase of the project;

an area consisting of 8 bioclimatic vegetation floors, a bicycle lane layout, autochthonous vegetation, educational itineraries, rest areas, informative panels and probes for measuring atmospheric temperature and humidity and at ground level (in order to establish a record of changes in temperature and humidity in the area).

The meeting also served to make a brief review on the development of Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Plans, included in the PACES Climate and Sustainable Energy Action Plan, which our city council signed last year.
