Águilas City Council and the Hippocampus Association have signed a collaboration agreement for the development of the PLUMBUM project.
The objective of this project is to remove as much lead as possible from the seabed.
The project consists of three phases to achieve it.
The first is the extraction of the sea from lead by every diver or person who can find this material.
This lead must be deposited in specific containers that will be installed for this purpose in collaborating centers, related to marine activity, which will be identified with a sticker.
Finally, this material will be removed and managed by an authorized manager of hazardous toxic waste (company Mahe Waste Management) to recycle it.
With the recycling of lead not only eliminated a source of marine pollution, financial funds are also obtained to finance the activities of the Hippocampus Association in its work of conservation of the seahorse of the Mar Menor.
Although the project is primarily aimed at divers, any citizen who can find lead material in their environment, and even those who wish to get rid of that old pipeline who does not know what to do with it, can also collaborate.
