On Saturday 24 the documentary "Gustavo Gillman. Eagles on his way" opens (16/08/2019)

This morning the release date of "Gustavo Gillman. Eagles on his way" was announced;

a documentary that, based on an original idea, script and direction of the municipal archive of Águilas, Pepi Navarro Martínez, in collaboration with Luis Pianelo Melenchón and production of Libélula Film Studio, tells us the life and work of the unique photographer and extraordinary engineer Gustavo Gillman Bovet, placing special emphasis on his relationship with the municipality of Águilas.

Following the plot around the fascinating personality and professionalism of Gillman, the projection, which will premiere on Saturday 24 at 20 hours in the Auditorium, takes us into the oldest visual history of the municipality of Águilas, at a time on horseback between the nineteenth and twentieth century, so decisive for its current configuration and contexture.

English by birth (London, 1856), much of his life was linked to Águilas, where he established his residence with his large family, and developed most of his working life as an engineer and director of the railway company, which covered the line from Baza to Lorca and Águilas.

The film dedicates a special chapter to his most emblematic work, the Embarcadero del Hornillo, colossal engineering work, monument carved into the sea in iron and concrete, nowadays become a distinctive and symbolic icon of the Águilas landscape.

To follow the path of Gillman, a transcendental character in contemporary history, is to follow the progress of the Aguileño municipality and region of the Spanish Southeast, being directly related to a good part of the events that marked its development and prosperity.

The railway line that he built and promoted was like a rack that opened borders and mentalities in the 19th century.

But it is his facet of photographer that enriches and visualizes the content of the documentary, which includes an unpublished retrospective of one of the most important photography collections (in quantity and quality) of industrial, landscape and customary themes of the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, where Águilas becomes the main protagonist

Few towns in Spain have a graphic heritage as valuable as a vehicle of testimonial transmission of its past, its people, customs and idiosyncrasy.

Of the thousands and thousands of snapshots he made, Águilas is most often the object of his goal, his source of inspiration.

The artistic and ethnographic value of Gustavo Gillman's photographs, displayed on the big screen, create an evocative effect and hypnotize the viewer who feels the protagonist of History.

Gillman opens the door to the past, in a retrospective journey through time.

A photographer interested in working and humble people, peasants and workers in their chores, strangers of the plain people, who are understood, magnified and dignified to be observed with the same eyes of respect and admiration with which he saw them through his camera .

It will be impossible not to be amazed or shuddered by photographs with such sensitivity, informative, anthropological and cultural burden, revealing the importance of everyday life.

Eagles and Gillman.

Causal and transcendental convergence in time of two entities and two identities found.
