In the absence of the regional record holder, Paloma Sánchez, in the international night race "Mayor of Águilas" due to sexist discrimination, the PP requests that in future editions the same opportunities be offered for all runners
The Popular Party of Eagles asks the City Council to take a firm step and bet on the visibility of women in sport so that the municipality becomes a clear example of equality in the sports events held.
The councilor of the Municipal Municipal Group, Antonio Landáburu, García, has made this demand public after knowing that regional record holder Paloma Sánchez will not participate this afternoon in the traditional night race "Trophy of the Mayor" to understand the runner that there is a clear sexist discrimination for not offering the same opportunities to all runners.
Landáburu explained that if Águilas really wants to become the cradle of regional sport, in the first instance, the bases must be laid so that, through sport, it contributes to the empowerment of women and guarantees their participation in them conditions that men do.
The fact that women cannot compete at the same level in this race, according to Landáburu, contributes to the traditional fact that the ascription of physical activities and sports have always had a masculine social role, "something we must break with to promote equity, not only in sport, but in all social fields. "
Landáburu has remarked that the two tests reigning in this race should have the same opportunities for all runners, since the fact of reducing the distance and, consequently, the economic prizes for the female category, does not contribute to promoting equity in the sport.
However, the popular mayor has asked the mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, that from the Administration all sports tests carried out in the municipality be reviewed so that this situation does not occur again, since a career of these characteristics in which more than 800 runners participate and that bears the name of woman "Mayor of Águilas", is not a clear example in favor of equality in sport.
