The councilor of the Popular Municipal Group of Águilas, Antonio Landáburu, has publicly praised the decision of the Municipal Board of Aguilas by matching the awards of the international night race "Mayor of Águilas".
After the controversy generated after the regional record holder, Paloma Sánchez, refused to participate in the race to understand the same that there was a clear sexist discrimination because there were not the same opportunities between men and women, the Popular Party asked the City Council to give a firm step and bet on the visibility of women in sports.
Landáburu has remarked that with this decision the two queen races in this race have the same opportunities for all runners, since the fact of reducing the distance and, consequently, the economic prizes for the female category, is not a clear bet for the promotion and equity in sport.
Likewise, the popular mayor recalled that if Aguilas really wants to become the cradle of regional sport, the bases must be laid so that, through sport, it contributes to the empowerment of women.
Moreover, the popular mayor has again asked the mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, that from the Administration, as they have done with this race, all sports tests that are carried out in the municipality are reviewed so that this situation does not occur again.
