Amanda Cuevas Sierra, born in Águilas (Murcia) 26 years ago, has been admitted to the Weizmann Institute of Israel, one of the most renowned multidisciplinary research institutions in the world, where she is conducting a research stay.
The scientific activities of the Weizmann Institute, which include around 1,000 research projects developed simultaneously, are at the forefront of international scientific activity, to the point of being able to affirm that the institute's scientists maintain the world leadership in contemporary cutting-edge projects .
Amanda graduated in Biology from the University of Murcia and completed a Master's Degree in Nutrition and Metabolism (E-MENU) at the University of Navarra, where she currently develops her PhD in Health Sciences, in whose research center she is specializing in food, physiology and health.
The main objective of his thesis is to study the role that the intestinal microbiota plays in the regulation of metabolism and weight loss, especially in the development of obesity and its comorbidities.
The results of their study could be used as new therapeutic strategies to prevent and treat obesity and associated diseases, as well as to help reduce public spending of this disease.
His research stay at the Weizmann Institute for four months is part of his doctorate and it is hoped that he can complement his research there in the hands of referents in this field.
Amanda discovered her interest in the natural sciences when she was doing her secondary studies at the Rey Carlos III institute in Águilas, where her teachers inspired her to continue in that field.
That is how he decided to study the degree in Biology at the University of Murcia, a place that gave him the necessary theoretical and practical tools.
