The City of Águilas has expanded the video surveillance system installed just over two years ago in the municipal cemetery in order to cover all points of the enclosure.
The mayor of the area, Isabel Fernández, supervised yesterday the last works of installation of this system that will allow the cemetery to be guarded 24 hours a day, avoiding vandalism in it.
"It is - Fernandez pointed out - of an important deterrent measure that will prevent theft and damage to the graves. This security system - he continued saying - has already been launched two years ago, but we detected that there were some areas that were not they were covered so it has been decided to expand the number of cameras installed. "
In this sense, the mayor has indicated that, "although it is true that every year by these dates, given the proximity of All Saints' Day, they are setting up the place, the objective we have from the Department, and in that line it is what we are working on, it is to keep the cemetery in perfect condition throughout the year. "
Thus, the councilwoman recalled, in the last four years there has been a lot of work that has been done in the municipal cemetery where, among other actions, a Comprehensive Rehabilitation Project has been launched consisting of the arrangement and cleaning of the roofs ;
the rehabilitation of some 600 niches that were in very bad condition;
an action on the access road to the cemetery and also on the interior and exterior walls, completing with an integral rehabilitation of the exterior facade;
the improvement of the drainage system in order to repel moisture in the area of the ossuary;
and the replacement of all items that were broken both in the autopsy room and in the janitor's office.
Likewise, more than 200 niches have been built;
an image of the Patron of Eagles has been placed;
sprinklers, crowns and aluminum moving stairs have been acquired that allow access to the highest areas safely;
and a surveillance system through cameras has been installed and expanded now.
Actions, all of them, which have meant an investment close to 700,000 euros in the last four years.
