Águilas City Council continues to work on the development of the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) "Sustainable Eagles" that seeks to plan the development of the city through a series of lines of action that will be implemented until 2023.
Among the objectives of EDUSI is to carry out a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS), co-financed by 80% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Multiannual Operational Program of Spain 2014-2020, to improve mobility in the urban area, as well as for the gradual implementation of a modality that reduces greenhouse gas emissions
The main objective of the PMUS of Águilas is the proposal of a set of actions within the scope of the municipal area, where the reduction of individual transport is prioritized in favor of non-motorized forms of travel (walking, cycling, scooter, etc.), facilitating , when possible, the use of collective modes of transport, all this making compatible economic growth, social cohesion, road safety and environmental protection.
It is, in short, to reduce the use of fossil fuels, pollutant emissions (such as CO2) and noise levels;
thus guaranteeing a better quality of life for the citizens of Aguila and those who visit it.
The work began with a first phase of exhaustive information gathering, during which telephone surveys, gauging and traffic counts were carried out, as well as inventories of all mobility problems.
The next phase of the PMUS, which has just begun, corresponds to the elaboration of the diagnosis in the different plans to be carried out with the search for weaknesses and opportunities that serve for the most adequate preparation of the proposals.
Finally, action programs will be carried out, which will be the content of the PMUS, in various areas of action, including:
Road plan and structure of the road network
Parking plan
Cycle mobility promotion plan
Plan to improve pedestrian mobility
Public transport promotion plan
Summer Mobility Plan
School Mobility Plan
Work mobility plan
etc.
The total work will last 10 months, so the final document of the PMUS will be finalized in the month of June 2020.
