The press room of the City Council of Águilas yesterday welcomed the presentation of Operation Child of Christmas, in which one more year the Evangelical Baptist Church of the town participates and encourages all citizens of the municipality to participate.
The mayor, Mari Carmen Moreno, wanted to join this initiative by supporting the project with the IEB pastor, Davis González, who was responsible for explaining what it is.
Niño de Navidad is a worldwide project of the NGO Samaritan's Purse coordinated in Spain by the Evangelical Decision Association.
The logistics of the project is channeled through the Evangelical Churches that promote it for the whole society, distribute the advertising and collect the boxes in the donor countries.
Schools, companies, associations, Catholic parishes and non-religious entities also participate.
The boxes are distributed in needy countries, to children without distinction of race, religion, sex or social class, being also the evangelical churches of the destination country responsible for logistics and are the ones who coordinate the distribution of the boxes.
Both Samaritan's Purse and Decision are non-profit charities and guarantee that the boxes arrive at their destination and that donations are managed with transparency.
All economic movements are audited every year and work is done diligently to maximize income, so that children are always the only beneficiaries.
The donor countries currently together with Spain are the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Finland, Japan, Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
Every year millions of shoe boxes full of gifts (school supplies, toiletries and toys) are distributed to the neediest children in the world.
These boxes are donated by people who show their love and solidarity by preparing the boxes with new products and taking them to the Delivery Points throughout the peninsula.
In the case of Águilas this year there are two distribution points of the boxes, since the Department of Women of the City of Águilas has wanted to join the solidarity project by delivering the boxes so that those interested can fill them with their gifts and deliver them on Wednesdays from 18h at 9pm in the Evangelical Baptist Church (Plaza Doctor Calero, 5), which in addition to the collection point is also a distribution point for boxes, at the same time.
The maximum delivery date of the boxes is November 23.
Today, Operation Child of Christmas is the largest children's Christmas humanitarian project in the world.
Each year, more than 11 million boxes are distributed in more than 100 countries around the world.
Therefore, the mayor has not hesitated to "encourage the aquiline to participate in this beautiful project, whose children are intended and thus give joy to the needy."
Along the same lines, Pastor Davis González has pointed out that "it is a simple gesture that can bring hope and joy to children in precarious situations. Together we can transform lives and share the true meaning of Christmas."
