With the beginning of the 2019/2020 school year, the Department of Environmental Education of the City Council of Águilas has begun the installation in all schools of the municipality, 11 nursery and primary schools and 3 institutes, of a school composter that will serve for the valorization of organic matter
This action is part of the Composting Future program, a program with which it is intended that students through school composting understand the cycle of organic matter in a practical and didactic way, participating and taking responsibility for the process, since together with the construction of The composter schoolchildren will work throughout the school year for the transformation of organic waste generated in the center in compost.
The school composter will also serve as a link for the correct development of other school programs in some of the centers, since by having canteens and school gardens they will perform a circular economy exercise.
School composting in schools is the best way to introduce the habits of separation of organic matter from our home, which is almost 50% of our waste, and be prepared to meet the obligation set by the European Union where municipalities with more than 5,000 inhabitants must separate the organic fraction to recycle it, which means that we will have to live with another container on the street, it will be brown, having to know how it is used.
