Yesterday, the schools of Águilas held a working meeting with the mayor Francisca Gallego and Cristóbal Casado, as well as with Juan Alcaraz, coordinator of the "Active Schools" Program, to jointly plan the necessary actions for its implementation, This school year is going to start in several educational centers.
"Active schools" is a program offered by the Ministry of Education and Culture, which is based on an active learning methodology by challenges.
The main daily challenge is to achieve individually, at least the 10,000 steps recommended by WHO.
The ultimate goal is to reduce overweight and childhood obesity, which in the Region of Murcia is close to 40%.
The program also contemplates the participation of families, trying to boost their interest in aspects such as balanced feeding for their children and the need to promote the practice of active leisure, helping to prevent possible pathologies associated with obesity at an early age.
In this meeting it was agreed to take all the information to the Cloisters and from January training activities will be launched for teachers and other informative activities, jointly, for all families in the town.
The municipality, from the departments of Education, Sports and Environment, will develop and signal several routes that will be incorporated into the "Metro-Minute Águilas" plans to provide students with guide routes that give them specific information to meet the challenge. of the 10,000 steps.
It will also launch actions to coordinate the participation of different professionals, nutritionists, health centers, socio-health associations, sports, among others, that allow the effective progress of this great challenge that is to fight against childhood obesity and continue promoting Águilas neighbors, healthy habits of active leisure.
