The mayor of Águilas María del Carmen Moreno has opened the Museo del Esparto located in the Molino de Sagrera, next to the mayor of Cultural Heritage and Culture, María Dolores Simó and local authorities who have wanted to accompany.
Today sees the light and will be part of the history of Águilas, in which the activity of esparto has been deeply rooted in the municipality.
In the words of the mayor Maido Simó "today a dream comes true for all Esparteros and it is the day of the most ancestral tradition of Águilas, especially to see the faces of those people who have given their lives. Seeing open their doors is one of the great satisfactions, "he said.
The mayor has stated that "it is a demand from the long-time Spartans and a fair recognition, by the City Council, of the work they have done for many years. The esparto has been an important part of the local economy in the past" and he has shown his gratitude to the technicians of Culture and to Juan Hernández Calvo, who "thanks to him, the memory of esparto in Águilas is kept alive".
The visiting hours will be Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
