The Councilor for Sports of the City of Águilas, Cristóbal Casado, stressed that "this sports event is qualifying for the Duathlon Championship of Spain."
He also recalled the playful and competitive aspect, pointing out the "category dedicated to better disguise since, as tradition marks, athletes can be disguised during the test."
At the same time, Casado has announced the renewal, for four years, of the agreement with the Spanish Triathlon Federation, which contemplates our municipality as a preferred city for conducting this type of tests.
It should be noted that in Spain there are only four cities that have signed this agreement with the said sports entity;
and is that "triathlon is booming," said Casado.
It is important to underline that Águilas moves between the two triathlon events with the highest number of participants, such as the Copa del Rey and the Reina de Triatlón and the Spanish Relay Championship.
In addition, "this year we will have the Aquatlon and Sprint Championship of Spain, and next June 13 and 14 the World Triathlon World Championship will be held," said the mayor of Sports.
In turn, Salvador Palazón, manager of the Municipal Sports Board of Águilas, has explained the technical aspects.
In this regard, the increase in the transition zone due to high demand has been highlighted, "reaching up to 600 athletes of which 120 are elite."
This test will begin next Sunday, February 16, at 9:00 am, departing from the esplanade of the Infanta Elena de Águilas Auditorium.
The competition consists of seven tests, each of them will be developed individually by categories, with ample participation of minors.
The first segment for adults, 5 km to travel, will be developed by the Parra promenade.
The bicycle segment will be carried out by the beltway and depending on the categories the sections will be shortened.
Finally, the third segment will be carried out again by the Paseo de Parra.
Next, the President of the Murcia Triathlon Federation, Diego Calvo Valera, has shown his satisfaction for the high participation of athletes from all over Spain, highlighting important names of athletes who will participate in it.
At the same time, it has indicated the increase in the great female participation, which has broken record this time, reaching 35%, when just a few years ago the participation of women did not exceed 10%.
Finally, the mayor of Águilas Mari Carmen Moreno, has concluded by thanking the high participation of athletes coming from different points of the Spanish geography, "giving Águilas of great sport relevance at the national level".
He has also expressed his gratitude to the sports council for the work done and to the Spanish and Murcia triathlon federations for continuing to place their trust in the municipality of Águilas to continue celebrating tests of such relevance. "In addition, Moreno has remarked that" with the renewal of this agreement demonstrates the federation's commitment to our municipality. "
