On Monday afternoon, at the Infanta Doña Elena Auditorium, a talk addressed to fathers and mothers of the schools of Águilas to inform about the "Active Schools" Program, aimed at students from 3rd to 6th of Primary Education and 1st. and 2nd of ESO.
The objectives are: among others: to introduce in our centers an innovative work methodology that encourages the acquisition of healthy habits in students in a fun and entertaining way, as well as improving the Body Mass Index (BMI) through the development of physical activity and healthy eating, helping to prevent possible pathologies associated with overweight at an early age.
The "Active Schools" Program proposes a main challenge that consists of achieving at least 10,000 daily steps individually, recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
These steps will be recorded day by day through some physical activity wristbands and their pedometer application.
The presentation was given by the Councilor for Education, Francis Gallego, who stressed "the importance of having the collaboration of fathers and mothers who can encourage, motivate, and even accompany their children to achieve this challenge of 10,0000 steps, for the benefit of promoting healthy habits. "
The speakers, Juan Alcaraz and María Sánchez, transferred to teachers, professors and parents the methodology that is being carried out for the development of said program, which will have the collaboration of health centers, as well as nutritionists and chefs from our region that will travel to educational centers to give talks to students.
Similarly, the University of Murcia has joined the experience as a collaborating entity and will be responsible for monitoring the program at the regional level.
They also explained that, although it is the area of ​​physical education that drives this activity, other areas such as science and mathematics participate.
That is, this program has a transversal action that implies and needs the collaboration of the entire educational community.
In Águilas, most of the centers in the town have been added and at a regional level a total of 100 educational centers have assumed the challenge with the main objective, always, of working for the integral development of our schoolchildren.
