Again, the memorial space of the Garden of Memory of the municipality of Águilas, which reminds its nine neighbors deported to Nazi concentration camps, has been the object of a vandalism.
This morning, the monolith dawned with a graffiti of marked ultra-right language, which literally said: "in time of hungry reds and lice."
"It is the second attack suffered by the Holocaust victims in three months," says Pedro Javier López, historian and coordinator of the cultural association Breaking Dawn 31. In November, the plaque that paid tribute to the Aguileños deported to Mauthausen-Gusen and Buchenwald was torn off. , pending the reopening of the monument.
"Clearly, we are facing a hate crime," says Lopez.
"Under the facts, it is undeniable that behind these unfortunate attacks lies an extremist thought."
The association Amanecer 31 has been working for months to dignify the memory of the nine Columbians deported to concentration camps.
Recently, they announced their adhesion to the "Network of Memory and Prevention of Fascism. Never Again", promoted at the state level by the Amical of Mathausen and Other Fields with the aim of preserving the memory of republican deportation and preventing and raising awareness against fascism .
Both Sunrise 31 and the Amical of Mauthausen and Other Fields have publicly condemned these facts.
"In the face of violence and ignorance, the only valid answer is to bet with more determination for education and culture," they conclude.
