The mayor of Águilas, María del Carmen Moreno, together with the mayors of Cartagena and San Pedro del Pinatar and the deputy mayor of the City of Murcia participated yesterday in the round table organized by the Regional Assembly of Murcia on the occasion of March 8 , International Women's Day.

The event was attended by the Association of Housewives, Consumers and Users Virgen de los Dolores de Águilas.

In a relaxed atmosphere, the participants in this meeting, moderated by Celia Cantero, delegate of the Efe Agency in the Region of Murcia, have said that the management of the municipalities is not better or worse depending on whether the mayor is male or female , but based on the "aptitude" and "attitude" of those who hold such responsibility, and on the availability of two basic qualities to govern a City Council.

Among these conditions, they have highlighted how to listen and know how to dialogue.

"If you do not know how to listen, attend to the citizens, be by your side, you will not be a good mayor," said the mayor of Águilas, something on which her counterparts in Cartagena and San Pedro del Pinatar have shown their agreement.

The reconciliation of personal and professional life has emerged as "the great challenge of the 21st century", not only for politics, but for any working woman.

Despite recognizing that they have lost stages of the lives of their children, which they will not be able to recover, the participants at the round table have confessed that being mayor of their respective municipalities has been an enriching experience and has fulfilled all their expectations.

Real and effective equality, not yet achieved, as an objective, and giving visibility to the situation of women in politics have been other issues discussed in this round table.

"40 years ago it was unthinkable that today there were 16 women mayors in the Region; it may seem that we are few, but the truth is that we have made great progress," said Mari Carmen Moreno.
