The Mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, has asked the Regional Government to inform the City Council on a daily basis of the evolution of the pandemic in the town, offering specific data regarding the municipality of Águilas.
"We believe that the announcement, made by the Ministry of Health and that was transmitted to us last Friday by the President of the Autonomous Community, does not respond to the general interest of citizens, which is what we must ensure at all times," Moreno has pointed out.
This fact, together with the leak that has been carried out in some municipalities, "is generating a feeling of uncertainty among citizens who see one of their fundamental rights violated: that of information."
Moreno has been clear in this regard, reminding the Ministry that "citizens have the right to know the existing data and the administration has the responsibility to offer that information truthfully and transparently. Only in this way," he continued, "can we stop the hoaxes and false information to which ignorance gives rise. "
A health crisis like the one we are currently going through requires absolute transparency on the part of administrations, which must demonstrate loyalty to all their citizens.
To conclude, the first mayor of Aguileña has stated that "it is the obligation of this City Council and this mayor to promptly inform of the evolution of the coronavirus in Águilas; an obligation to which I cannot comply if the Health Ministry is not promptly informed of this Town hall".
