The mayor of Consumption proposes a series of measures aimed at responsible consumption (06/05/2020)

The mayor of Consumption, Encarna Navarro, offers us, through the Municipal Consumer Information Office (OMIC), a series of measures to achieve responsible consumption. "On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared an international pandemic of the public health emergency situation caused by COVID-19, and on March 14, the state of alarm was declared for the entire national territory.

This implies that our life during these days has changed: our daily activity has changed, many consumers are seeing their income diminished, the cessation of our social activity, the economic uncertainty that this situation creates for us in the future, all this tells us that it is time to take measures to adapt to the situation we are experiencing "- said the mayor. 1.

Review your contracts.

Now that we have more time, it is time to review our contracts, request budgets, study our insurance, our loans or mortgages, the bank account with the fewest commissions, the ADSL that interests us the most, many few do a lot! 2.

Consume supplies responsibly: water, electricity, gas.

Adjust the expense, compare rates (you may be interested in time discrimination), adjust the power, use smart home appliances (at appropriate temperatures to save or in the right place of installation), turn off appliances in stand-by ...

everything bill! 3.

Internet shopping.

Avoid buying out of boredom, check that the online store is safe, choose secure payment methods, be wary of offers that are too attractive.

It should be remembered that during the Alarm State, the usual withdrawal period of 14 days is suspended; the calculation of the terms will be resumed once the Alarm Status has ended.

And remember ...

always give priority to local commerce. 4.

Food purchases.

We can create a weekly menu and, before going shopping, prepare the list according to what is necessary and to our budget. 5.

Successive contract or service provision contracts (gym, academies, etc): the company may propose service provision options in other ways compatible with the alarm status (eg online classes) or offer service recovery options a posteriori and only if the consumer does not accept said options, then the amounts already paid will be returned proportionally to the period of the service not provided or, if the consumer accepts it, to reduce the amount resulting from future installment fees.

from service. Likewise, the company may not charge new monthly payments until the service can be provided normally. 6.

Be responsible with your environment: Although the circumstances are complicated, we must continue taking care of the environment.

Responsible consumers reduce, reuse and recycle. 7.

Now more than ever you must be informed of your rights and your obligations as a consumer and as a responsible citizen.

Remember: An informed consumer is a powerful consumer.
