The mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, announced this morning, coinciding with the celebration of World Bicycle Day, the imminent award of a new section of the pedestrian cycle lane on RM-D15, a road that connects Águilas with Calabardina. The action, framed in the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy and Integrated Sustainable Eagles, is co-financed 80% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the multi-regional operational program of Spain 2014-2020. The planned work consists of a bicycle-pedestrian lane, with a paved width of 3.50 meters, of which 2.30 will be used for bicycles and the remaining 1.20 for pedestrian traffic.
The section, the construction of which will be awarded tomorrow, will reach kilometer point 0,923, at the beginning of La Cola beach, a place from which both cyclists and pedestrians can continue to the Calabardina district with all the safety guarantees along the land that runs parallel to the coastline. Along the same lines, Moreno has advanced that the drafting of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan "is already well advanced; an action, also included in the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy and Integrated Sustainable Eagles, which includes numerous cyclable streets within the municipality and which aims to improve mobility in urban areas, as well as the gradual implementation of mobility that reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
