The nucleus of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) in the municipality of Águilas has shown its support for the workers of the company Hortalizas de Europa before the announcement of a collective dismissal that would affect 104 employees.Hortalizas de Europa belongs to the G's Spain Group, which bought Pascual Hermanos SA in 2002.
The contemplated dismissal affects a third of the workforce in Águilas, denouncing that "the criteria argued to justify the dismissal are not objective".The PCE expresses its full support for the Company Committee, which since June 5 has been negotiating with management in search of an alternative to collective dismissal.
The aquilist communists support the proposal of the union Comisiones Obreras to adopt alternative measures such as voluntary or incentivized withdrawals, or relocations to other Group centers. In the communiqué they have sent to the media, the Communist Party describes the decision of the European Vegetables directive as "an attack on the dignity of workers." They demand the delivery of the documentation requested by the Company Committee, as well as that the negotiation meetings be held in a space appropriate to the health requirements of the moment.
