Last Friday, July 24, the Mayor of Águilas Mari Carmen Moreno, and the mayor of sports Cristóbal Casado, received at the gates of the Aguileño consistory the coach of the Kárate Águilas Club Juan Carlos Navarro Gómez, and the members of their competition team. The aforementioned coach and director of the aquiline club explained to the representatives of the City Council how difficult the current situation is due to the COVIC-19 crisis for all sports, especially for contact sports, such as karate. The competition team, which has only recently resumed training, has had to adapt (like all sports clubs) to the new regulations, which involve rigorous safety, hygiene and distancing measures between athletes.
Being for example one of the measures, not being able to carry out hand-to-hand combat. But this welcome to the aquatic karate team comes to mind due to their recent participation during this month of July, in two new world karate championships.
These championships have been organized by the online platform www.sportdata.org and two major brands of sports equipment and karate sponsorship, such as Arawaza and Adidas. In the aforementioned championships they allow a maximum of 32 participants per category and different age group, in the kata and kumite modalities (only techniques, without a real opponent).
After downloading an access code to the competition, the participants have one day to record their best kata, or their best kumite technique movements, on video.
After recording, they must upload it to the online platform, where a series of judges registered in the Championship, will have another day only to evaluate their videos and make a note of them so that they know who is making rounds until the final. The interesting thing about the championship, apart from re-motivating young people in the competition (due to the break due to the problems of the COVIC-19), is being able to fight with competitors of all levels, and from all parts of the world. The young competitors of the Club Kárate Águilas who have participated in these two championships are:Alba Franco, Luis Miguel Agullo, Sergio Atienza, Isabel Torres, Cristóbal Díaz, Pablo Atienza, José Contreras, Antonio Pérez, León Mamonko, Alejandro Franco, Anass Elhaidaoi, Laura Piñero, Heike Martínez, Ziyan Miao, Zihao Miao, Andrés Martínez and Adrián Sedeño.Some of them have managed to pass a round.
Others, like José Contreras, Anass Elhaidaoi and Andrés Martínez managed to reach third place.
Laura Piñero, Cristóbal Díaz, Adrián Sedeño, and Luis Miguel Agullo got the silver.
And Zihao Miao achieved on this occasion a more than creditable first place.
All these good results were achieved in the E-Kumite modality. Our congratulations to all the members of the Club Kárate Águilas, and the initiative of Adidas, Arawaza, and the online platform Sportdata for trying to keep competitive sports alive in these difficult times
