A few months ago, the result of a joint motion in the plenary session of the Águilas City Council, the beginning of the signaling of pedestrian crossings in the town with pictograms was approved for children with ASD, with the aim of improving mobility on public roads of people with autism spectrum disorders ASD.People with ASD find it much easier to process picture messages and much easier to communicate through illustrations or pictograms. Each pictogram must be self-explanatory and usually does not need a text to accompany it so that it can be understood, they are very simple images."Our goal is for children to be able to cross the street with greater safety and continue working for a more inclusive and accessible city for all, because in addition to being aimed at people with different capacities, such as minors with autism, these pictograms are also useful for any citizen with some kind of functional or cognitive diversity, such as Alzheimer's ", says the mayor, Mari Carmen Moreno. The City Council of Águilas began a year ago to place pictograms in different shops in the town, thanks to the collaboration of ASTEAMUR and the Association of Merchants and Industrialists of Águilas. From this Government team we will continue working within our I Plan for People with Disabilities to make Águilas a more inclusive municipality.
