The fact that the tiger mosquito is fully seated in Aguilas is one of the main conclusions drawn from the report "Detection and monitoring of the populations of the tiger mosquito in the municipality of Eagles", prepared by the UMU invasive species and Campos Serrano company and whose results were presented by Francisco Collantes, professor, Department of Animal Biology at the University of Murcia.
The presentation ceremony, which was attended, among others, the mayor of the town, Mari Carmen Moreno;
the mayor of Health, Rosalia Married;
municipal veterinarian, Manolo Sansegundo;
and the municipal technician Environment, Enrique Delgado, took place in the City of Eagles.
Collantes said that during the three years that has made the study not only detected a higher number of affected areas but also population density, ie, the number of copies of the tiger mosquito has increased significantly due to Collantes all- emphasized "that previously have not been put in place control measures."
One point on which, he announced the mayor of Sanidad- "we're working and studying together with the technical performances would soon develop in Aguilas and will be aimed at reducing as much as possible the appearance of tiger mosquito".
Finally, Collantes said that with entomological surveillance measures and biocides treatments is fundamental education and public awareness to tackle this invading mosquito.
He recalled that this species of mosquito is their breeding mainly in environments of private property (patios, gardens ...) and as simple as removing the water left on the plates of plants after watering actions and not cause excessive flooding after irrigation or renew the water at least three times a week for containers such as animal troughs can be crucial as a preventive measure.
