The Department of Environment of the City of Eagles and the Mediterranean Public School will develop during the months of April and May the "Spring for sparrows" project, in which 300 students, from seven to twelve years of age, twelve participate classrooms with the center.
The aim is to start up in the school of a series of actions in defense of the common sparrow, species closely linked to the human being and the cities and suffers a worrying decline in its population, mainly by increased predation, own the competition with invasive species, lack of green areas and the difficulty of finding food.
Precisely the sparrow has been named "Bird of the Year 2016" by the NGO SEO / BirdLife, to highlight the problems of conservation.
The "Spring for sparrows" project will begin with the presentation of two information panels in the center aisles, as well as a series of talks that a monitor of the Department of Environment impart to each of the classes of Primary, to explain the reasons for the disappearance of sparrows, and protecting benefits of the measures we can do for your defense.
In addition, students will construct food and water bowls for sparrows, using recycled materials (plastic bottles, carton, etc.) will be distributed among students and placed in the facilities of the center itself, precisely because it is now the time more needed to be fully sparrows rearing their young.
These activities involve all elementary students of that school, from first to sixth.
